From College to Corporate: My Journey to The Bliss Group

I always knew I thrived in creative spaces, but I never would have expected my love for art to have manifested in the way that it does now.

As a teenager, I attended a performing arts school to focus on my passion for music. I loved it. In fact, I loved it so much that I entered my freshman year of college as a music performance major in the middle of a pandemic. I thought I had it all together with the perfect major that would allow me to continue crafting a skill I had worked on for so long.

Soon after college started, I met a public relations major through a mutual friend. I could see the passion in her eyes and excitement flowing from her body as she talked about her experience in PR. From then on, I couldn’t stop thinking about doing the one thing every college freshman is warned they will do: the inevitable major change. The prospect of starting something new was intimidating, but I couldn’t shake the question of “what if,” even as I faced so many questions of “what about.”

What about all of the years I’ve spent training as a flutist? What about the year worth of credits I have under my belt as a music major? What about the fact that I feel like I barely even know what PR is? It didn’t matter. I knew I loved to write, build relationships and connect with people; I knew I thought strategically, yet creatively. Most importantly, I knew my gut was telling me to go for it. So, I did.

If it weren’t for the mutual friend who introduced me to PR, I wouldn’t have landed where I am today. Despite the doubts, this one decision led me to pivot in a direction I never expected to turn towards. But sometimes the greatest journeys to come are the ones you haven’t even dreamt of yet—like working for a PR agency in New York City.

Choosing The Bliss Group

Now, I feel confident in my decision to pursue PR and get the privilege of spending each day inspired by the smart and kind professionals who I call my teammates. The Bliss Group embodies all there is to love about agency life, from innovative strategy and positive client relationships to thoughtful colleagues.

I came into this role ready to be a sponge, soaking up knowledge from the people around me. Part of the beauty of PR is that there’s always something new to learn and someone new to learn from.

The journey to choosing PR came unexpectedly for me, but my optimism for all that’s to come allows me to reflect on moments that led me to The Bliss Group with appreciation. To the potential public relations professional: I encourage you to make the jump. Pursue your passion, be a sponge, and watch yourself grow in confidence as you embark on this rewarding journey. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by what’s in store.
